6 mois après que Jay-Z ait quitté son poste de président de Def Jam, Shakir Stewart a été nommé vice président pour le remplacer.
Shakir Stewart travail sur Def Jam depuis 2004 en tant que A&R (directeur artistique) et est à l'origine des signatures de Rick Ross et Young Jeezy entre autre.
