Sans suprise, c'est bien Kanye West qui a obtenu la récompense du 'Best Rap Album' de l'année lors de la cérémonie des Grammy Awards 2008. Mais Nas et sa femme Kelis se sont fait remarquer lors de cet événement en portant des T-Shirt faisant référence au futur album de Nas.
La plupart des chaines de télévisions présentes lors de cet événement ont sauté sur l'occasion pour aller interviewer Nas,
et notamment CNN :
Nas : "It's all the experiences we go through every day -- all ethnicities, black white, indifferent. We've all been discriminated at some point whether it's in the Dominican Republic, whether it's China, whether it's Iraq where soldiers get their heads blown off for reasons we don't know why. The meaning of the word is supposed to be ignorant, so there is money being made off us poor so-called ignorant people, no longer are black people n*ggers, today it's also me and you."
Kelis : "By the way, John Lennon had a song called 'Woman Is The n*gger of the World'. That was many years ago [and] it still hasn't changed."
Pour la catégorie 'Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group', c'est Common qui a gagné avec son titre "Southside" featuring Kanye West.
