Nouveau titre "Black President"

Nas a envoyé à MTV le nouveau titre "Black President" produit par DJ Green Lantern. Ce titre devait être dans le projet "Barack Obama mixtape" mais Nas a insisté pour que ça soit sur son nouvel album comme l'explique Green Lantern :

"I was making the song for the Barack Obama mixtape, and Nas heard the song and called, like, 'Yo, I need that for my album. I said, 'Of course, but it's gotta come out now, 'cause it's so timely.' With his album dropping July 1st, it worked out. I think he does it justice. He not only supports the idea of Obama being the president, he actually questions it in the second verse in true Nas fashion. He's positive, uplifting, but critical at the same time."

Ce morceau contient un sample vocal de Tupac : "Although it seems heaven-sent, we ain't ready to have a black president." et de Obama criant : "Change the world!".

Nas revient aussi sur son envie de voir Obama devenir président:

"There never been a president to address the slaughter of young black people by this country's police," Nas fumed. "When your government's police are killing one section of people, that's genocide. There's never been a president to even acknowledge it. You don't acknowledge that? That's a big thing President Obama has to recognize when he gets in office.

I'm five presidents in ... and I ain't seen nothing happen to stop the police murders on young, black people. Why would I believe in the system? With that being said, I think Barack can cure that disease and help cure the country. Not just in that area with us blacks, but also with all Americans. Women are getting treated like dogs. You know how hard it is for a woman to prove she was raped? The system is warped. They throw young guys — who's starving — in jail just trying to survive on the streets. Throw them in jail forever. Young kids, 18 years old, executed in Texas. Yet, child predators get to come home and do it again. I think it's so much our president can do. [Obama] seems like a human being. I say that because a lot of presidents don't seem like human beings. They seem like straight-up businessmen who care about nothing but the business. Nah, you gotta care about the people."

Shakir Stewart est revenu avec XXL sur le changement de titre du nouvel album de Nas. Il assure que si le titre a changé, le contenu reste exactement le même.

"The message of the album has not changed. And I think that Nas has done an incredible job of speaking to the public through various forms, letting people know what the theme of this album is. Whether or not you see any letters on or off an album cover, does not dictate the substance in the music that your hear once you press play on that CD or iPod. And I think that Nas is taking his time and he’s crafted a masterpiece. I think that people will get two things out of it: they’ll be entertained and they’ll be educated. I think that’s necessary not only in today’s musical climate, but in the climate that we live in this word. There’s obviously some great dance music and some happy music, but there needs to be some music that touches the heart and souls of the people. I think there’s been so much talk about the title and this and that, it’s whatever with the title. Let’s get into what his message is. And I think when people do that and really embrace that concept, I think that they’ll be pleased."

[Sondage] Le nouvel album disque d'or?

Avec ses 8 albums solos, Nas a vendu plus de 11 millions d’albums aux USA. Ses 7 premiers albums ont tous été certifié au moins disque de platine par la RIAA* (Recording Industry Association of America) et même double platine pour "It Was Written" et "I Am...". Son dernier album en date "Hip Hop Is Dead" n'a été certifié que Disque d'Or (plus de 760 000 exemplaires).

* La RIAA et Soundscan sont 2 structure différentes, la RIAA prend en compte des ventes qui ne sont pas comptabilisé par Soundscan.

La baisse des ventes de disques dans l'industrie touche particulièrement le Hip Hop, est-ce que l'album de Nas sera t-il au moins disque d'or?? (500 000 exemplaires).

Le nouvel album dans 4 semaines

La promo de l'album a commencé il y a quelques semaines, la date de sortie a été fixé pour le 1er juillet et donc normalement le nouvel album de Nas sera disponible dans 4 semaines chez tous les disquaires (le 30 juin en France).

Pour l'instant pas de single officiel et donc pas encore de vidéo pour promouvoir l'album sur les grandes chaînes de TV, ceci ne devrait plus tarder.

"Be A Nigger Too" est le street single de l'album et sa vidéo devrait avoir beaucoup de mal à s'imposer sur les gros médias audiovisuels comme le morceau d'ailleurs, le titre n'est même pas en écoute officielle sur le site de Def Jam...
